She has spent two years trying to beat him. Then he walks off the stage.
Sixteen-year-old Nia Brooks has been second-chair cello behind Jonah Castellanos since ninth grade, and this year the spring concert solo is finally within reach. It is the piece her grandmother, who is slowly losing her memory, still recognizes. But when Jonah freezes at the chair challenge and walks out, Nia discovers that winning might cost her more than losing, and that the best music might be the kind you share.
